The seventh generation Ford Mustang is here with the debut of the 2024 Mustang, which has been unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show.

It was rumored that the new Mustang would debut with hybrid powertrains, but that’s not the case. The base engine is an updated version of the current 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine. Ford hasn’t released the official specs, but Ford says that the 2024 Mustang GT will have more power than the current Mustang’s 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

The updated 5.0-liter V8 gets a new dual throttle body design that allows for more air intake and a new exhaust manifold and a longer exhaust camshaft. The four-cylinder EcoBoost engine gets a new twin-scroll turbocharger, a high-speed wastegate and port and direct injection.

The six-speed manual transmission now has rev-matching tech that’s available on the GT. The 10-speed automatic transmission also carries over with a few changes to improve the performance.

On the outside the design doesn’t stray too far from the current Mustang, with crisper lines. At the front there are new tri-bar LED headlights and Ford also says that it’s optimized the roofline to make it easier to get in and out of with a racing helmet on. At the rear there are more angles than before and the GT stands out with its quad-tipped exhaust, compared to the dual exhaust on the EcoBoost models.

Under that new skin, the chassis is basically a refresh of the sixth-generation Mustang. Ford did make a few upgrades to increase structural stiffness. Ford is only offering one “Performance Pack” at launch, which adds a front tower brace, Torsen limited-slip differential, large Brembo brakes, wider wheels and tires. The MagneRide active suspension is an option. Recaro seats and an active exhaust system are optional.

Inside the interior looks far more modern with a 13.2-inches, while digital cluster measures 12.4-inches. The steering wheel gets a new flat-bottom design. A wireless phone charger is optional in addition to a B&O audio system, while it comes standard with Ford’s CoPilot360 driver assistance tech.

Ford says that the 2024 Mustang will go on sale in summer 2023.
