After two years of virtual award ceremonies, the 2022 World Airline Awards event returned to normal procedures, with airlines from around the world attending the 2022 awards ceremony, held today at the historic Langham Hotel in London, United Kingdom.

Qatar Airways named World’s Best Airline for seventh time

Qatar Airways has been voted the World’s Best Airline for a record seventh time at the 2022 World Airline Awards, winning the prestigious Airline of the Year 2022 title.

Singapore Airlines takes second position in the world, with Emirates third, ANA All Nippon Airways fourth, and Qantas Airways in fifth position, out of more than 350 airlines included in the survey results.

Thai Airways drops 23 positions in 2022 World Airline Awards from 23rd to 46th, down with second grade airline companies like LATAM (47th) or IndiGo (45th).

However Thai Airways managed to rank No. 4 in the world for the best airline cabin crew and best airline staff in Asia at the Skytrax 2022 World Airline Awards.

Singapore Airlines repeated previous year success by winning the award for the World’s Best Cabin Staff. This award category remains dominated by airlines across Asia, with Qatar Airways being the only non-Asia airline to be ranked in the World’s Top 10.

Emirates wins award for Best Economy Class Airline

The World Airline Awards cover all types of travel classes, with an overall Best by Cabin award, Best Seats by Cabin, Best Lounges and Best Onboard Catering by cabin. The overall winners for these awards are:

  • The World Best First Class Airline: Singapore Airlines
  • The World’s Best Business Class Airline: Qatar Airways
  • The World’s Best Premium Economy Class Airline: Virgin Atlantic
  • The World’s Best Economy Class Airline: Emirates

The World’s Top 20 Airlines in 2022

The top 40 airlines in 2022 reflect a number of changes from earlier year ratings, and Skytrax attribute part of this to the varying operational levels of some airlines due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions during the period of the customer survey. China’s borders effectively still remain closed due to their Covid zero policy which has meant very few international flights being operated for the last 2½ years.

Known as “the Oscars of the aviation industry“, the Skytrax World Airline Awards are independent and impartial awards decided through international customer voting. Passengers with over 100 nationalities participated in the 2021-22 survey, with 14.32 million eligible entries counted in the results. The survey was also provided in six major international languages.

The online customer survey operated from September 2021 to August 2022. The customer survey is provided in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Chinese. Over 100 customer nationalities participated in the 2021/2022 survey. Survey entries are screened to identify IP and user information, with all duplicate, suspect or ineligible entries deleted. More than 350 airlines are featured in the final Award results.
