Mazda has unveiled its new flagship vehicle, the 2024 CX-90, which replaces the CX-9 in the lineup. The three-row CX-90 is wider and longer with room for up to eight passengers, providing more room than the CX-9.

The CX-90 is based on Mazda’s new large platform, which features a rear-wheel bias layout. Mazda has not announced the exterior or interior dimensions, but given the fact that it can now hold more passengers, we expect it to have more shoulder room than the CX-9.

There are two engine options to choose from. The standard engine is a new turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-6 E-Skyactiv G engine that’s mated to a M-Hybrid Boost electric motor that’s situated between it and the eight-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain generates a combined 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque on premium fuel. You’ll notice that’s the most powerful Mazda series production engine yet.

The more efficient version is the E-Skyactiv plug-in hybrid that mates a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor that generates a combined 323 hp and 369 lb-ft. of torque. The plug-in hybrid is powered by a 17.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack. Mazda has not announced the electric range estimates.

The CX-90 also features the brake-based Kinematic Posture Control torque vectoring system that debuted on the 2022 MX-5 Miata. The system helps limit body roll and improve the SUV’s handling.

Inside the CX-90’s cabin has a minimalistic design, like the CX-50. At the top of the dashboard there’s 12.3-inch screen, which requires you to use the rotary dial on the center console when you’re on the move. Distinct features include the optional Kumihimo cloth dashboard trim and exposed-grain Maple trim.
